The government has taken a new decision allowing municipalities to exploit forests for firewood, based on their population needs.
The process will be realized through private companies, contracted by Municipalities or public enterprises, which will be established exactly for this purpose, under the administration of local governments.
The companies will only cut and transport lumber while the sale will be realized by Municipality, based on fees established by the Council of Minister.
Through this decision, the government aims to resolve a problem created by the forest moratorium law , which makes it impossible to supply the population with firewood, especially in remote areas where lumber is the only way for winter heating.
The Ministry removed the reference price time ago as a measure to reduce lumber import costs. But official data show import increased with 43%.
