Government offers crediting fund for agriculture

The government will cooperate next year with the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development to offer 75 million EUR as special guarantee for banks that will credit farmers.

“We will pay interests too so that farmers can return only the principal”, the Minister of Agriculture said.

The applications will be evaluated by the agency of agricultural and rural development, but what are the conditions for farmers to benefit?

“They should come with business plans and invest in those cultures we have decided as a priority”, Minister Panariti said.

This is not the first scheme of financial guarantees for the private sector. Albania has tried similar schemes even in other sectors, but the result has been disputable.

This time, the government is convinced that this program will function.

“Because agriculture is working even without support. You have seen how production is increasing”, Minister Panariti declared.

According to Panariti, the Ministry has received its first applications.
