Government draft for communist files remains in effect

30/03/2015 00:00

The Government didn’t accept to merge in one its bill with the one
proposed by MPs Doda and Idrizi for the declassification of
communist-era files, that foresee lustration, removing from their state
held positions in the Government, judicial and administration everyone
who held functions during the communist era, including the Secret
Service.

The majority and the opposition debated for the ruling of Constitutional Court 7 years ago that overturned the Democratic Party bill of the lustration.

The Government bill foresees a commission with 5 members that will review the requests for the declassification of the files, 14 thousands of them, but it doesn’t foresee any actions towards the persons verified as involved, leaving it to the institutions to decide whether they will promote them in the future.
