“Intensive care capacities in life-saving equipment have been increased by 50% to cope with the situation caused by COVID-19”.

The statement was made by Minister Ogerta Manastirliu, during the handover ceremony of 10 new respirators by the German Ambassador in Tirana, at the COVID2 hospital “Shefqet Ndroqi”.

She added: “Thanks to the support of the Albanian government, the European Union and other partners, we have managed to double the amount of intensive care equipment. We are facing a serious situation. We have about 200 patients admitted to both ‘Covid’ hospitals. But thanks to the government’s commitment to strengthen hospital capacity, we have more than 500 beds available to citizens in need of hospital treatment. In our autumn-winter plan, we have further strengthened the capacities of the regional hospitals, doubling the available beds for the treatment of Covid-19 “, said Manastirliu.

Meanwhile the Ambassador of Germany in Albania, Mr. Peter Zingraf expressed the continuous support for Albania by the countries of the European Union. “I am very pleased with the continuous assistance from the countries of the European Union that showed once again we are close allies of Albania. Countries such as Germany have offered more assistance, such as this today of high-tech equipment for the frontline against the pandemic, to increase the level of work of medical staff,” said the German ambassador during the handover ceremony in the hospital “Shefqet Ndroqi”.
