The German government has openly criticized the Albanian opposition for boycotting the Parliament. However, Christian Schmidt, the rapporteur for Albania at the Foreign Commission at the German Parliament, blames the government as well for the crisis.

“This is not normal. The Parliament lives throught debate. It is up to the government to guarantee parliamentary cooperation”, said the former German Minister for DW.

“I want to see how the opposition is involved in the Parliamentary procedures”, he underlined.

The decision of Germany regarding Albania’s EU accession negotiations will depend on the progress-report of the European Commission that will be published on May 29th. For the final approval of the European Council, on June 19th, Germany will need the vote of the German Bundestag and of its Foreign Commission.
