After the recent Criminal Code amends, Albania will have special areas for treating minors who are detained by police or who become victims of violence.

According to NGOs, the number of minors who contact with the police has increased in just a few years.

In 2011 there were 46 minors who had been detained by police. In 2017 there are 933. The premises where minors will be detained are called “friendly spaces”.

The first one was created in Kamza, where there are several children escaping domestic violence, who have left their homes due to economic difficulties, or who have been involved in violent robberies.
