Serbian media reporter a few days ago that France was ready to offer Balkan countries a “privileged partnership” in exchange of withdrawing their objective form joining the EU.
The French Ambassador to Belgrade, Jean Louis Falconi, has rebuked such claims by saying that his country has not imposed any veto towards the Balkans, and hasn’t even proposed any privileged partnership. “As President Emmanuel Macron said in Belgrade, Balkan’ place is in the EU”, Falconi said.
He explained that Macron’s idea for modernizing the enlargement process will actually bring more benefits to the aspiring countries since they’d be implementing wider structural reforms. However, the other benefits, the investments, and funds would come after the process, according to the Ambassador.
For him, the current acceptance process is not enough and citizens from the member countries are not seeing the evolution in practice.
