The conflict over properties on the coast has led to the imprisonment of 8 people, among them former MP Mark Frroku, who were involved in a massive fight on Sunday.
Representatives of the Franciscan Catholic Church have been fancing the contested part of the land in Cape Rodoni, north of the coastal city of Durres, for which they have with a certificate of ownership.
But its ownership is also claimed by the residents of the area. The Kaculi family has another property certificate and claims to have acquired it through the privatization law. Both parties were involved in a physical conflict between them and former MP Mark Frroku, who were putting up the fence to surround their property.
Former MP Mark Frroku, who was in the role of an entrepreneur, and other representatives of the Franciscan church are accused of “intimidation”, “actions that prevent the disclosure of the truth”, “disruption of public order and peace”, as well as ” crime prevention”. Meanwhile, the arrested residents are accused of “self-judgment” and “intentional injury”.
Another person has been declared wanted, from the group of church representatives, who is suspected of firing a firearm at the scene of the incident.
At the beginning of this month, the municipality of Durrës suspended the fencing works of the land until the ownership of the land was clarified by the Cadastre. But Church representatives are back to surround the land on Sunday. This situation has turned into a physical conflict where some people were slightly injured by the blows.
The conflicts between the residents of the area and the Franciscan church are nnot new, while the Church, through its legal representative, announced that it has terminated the contract with the previous representative, which in the conflict between the parties has moved to support the residents. The responsible authorities, first the Cadastre will determine the situation of the land and in case there will be an overlap, the case will go to court.
