Former mayor of Himara hits minor in Llogora road, 17-year-old is in serious condition

In a serious accident this evening in Llogora, the former mayor of Himara on the southern coast of Albania, Vasil Bollano, while driving his vehicle hit the minor Elio Hamiti, who is unfortunately in serious condition.

Sources for Top Channel inform that the minor has injuries to his head and internal organs, as a result of the collision.

The youngster was sent to Tirana for specialized treatment, and it is reported that is in a deep coma.

The 66-year-old politician was escorted to the police station for further action.

Vasil Bollano is the head of the Greek minority organization Omonia, which promotes the rights of the Greek minority in the south of the country.

On April 21, 2009, Bollano was sentenced to six months in prison and a 3,800 euro fine, for removing road signs after objecting to road signs written only in Albanian and not in Greek. Bollano appealed the decision, arguing that the installation of road signs was a matter of municipal jurisdiction, but the Court of Appeal overturned the complaint.
