The former president of Albania and leader of the Freedom Party in the opposition, Ilir Meta, was arrested today by order of the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime.
The special prosecutor’s office has conducted a property investigation against Mr. Meta, and unofficially it is said that the charges are non-declaration of property, corruption and money laundering, among others.
In June, Mr. Meta was questioned for more than three hours by investigators at the Special Prosecutor’s Office. From his statements it was learned that he was asked about issues related to the family’s wealth.
The former president Meta has stated that he has never dealt with property or financial issues, issues that according to him, were taken care of by his wife Monika Kryemadhi, against whom there is also a property investigation by SPAK.
Even for Mrs. Kryemadhi today, the SPAK prosecution imposed the obligation to appear.
