The European Council will decide after a few days if they will open the accession negotiations with Albania.
There are 2-3 sceptic countries who may block the negotiations with the argument that Albania didn’t fulfil the criteria.
But for the European MP, Knut Fleckenstein, who is also the rapporteur for Albania at the European Parliament, Tirana has fulfilled the conditions.
“There has been clear progress. The reforms about the rule of law are going in the right direction, maybe even better than in some countries within the EU. Therefore, we need to open the accession negotiations with this country”, he appealed to the EP.
He also had another appeal for Kosovo.
“We must not forget that the criteria for the visa liberalization are now fulfilled”, Fleckenstein declared.
The German MP also insisted that the negotiations with Macedonia should be open and keep advancing with the further chapters, as it is the case with Serbia and Montenegro.
