In an interview for Deutsche Welle, the rapporteur of the European parliament for Albania, German MP Knut Fleckestein declared that peaceful protests in a democracy are common and possible. However, it is important that they stay peaceful and not disrupt the Parliament’s functionality.
For Fleckenstein, by burning the mandates, the opposition has made some kind of violations of contracts.
“I cannot say if this is wrong or right. But MPs must do their job in Parliament. I am disappointed that we have to constantly remind the MPs that they need to do their job”, Fleckenstein asid.
Will the opposition’s protest affect the negotiations?
“Yes. Not because of the protests, but in a country where the opposition hands over its mandates, it will be harder to sell its positive reforms”, Fleckenstein declared.
