The Parliament of Albania decided this Monday to return the files of all
candidates for the Vetting institutions to the Ombudsman, for another
review.
The absence of the opposition complicated the situation, but it was not the main reason for this decision.
The 79 candidates approved by the International Monitoring Operation didn’t have the complete documentation.
The Parliamentary Group leader of the Socialist Party, Gramoz Ruci, said that the President did not exert his competence and passed it to the Ombudsman.
The Parliament gave one week for the necessary documentation. The leaders of the two main parties of the majority, Edi Rama and Ilir Meta, had met previously and decided for a unanimous vote. Blushi and Hafizi voted against, saying that the return of this process to the Ombudsman was illegal.
However, giving a second chance to the 79 candidates was also a suggestion of the International Monitoring Operation.
