A few weeks after the scandal in the Oncology Hospital at QSUT, where doctors had created a scheme to take patients to the private sector, the ward continues to suffer from shortages.

Hundreds of patients with cancer are suffering in this hospital. Fiks Fare program has been observing for several weeks this hospital, where there are shortages of vital medications and breakdowns of vital equipment. But surprisingly, medicines that are for hospital use are found in pharmacies near the QSUT hospital center.

In the last two days, on Wednesday and Thursday (26.09.2024), hundreds of patients suffering from colon cancer have been notified by phone by the staff of this hospital that the rays apparatus has broken down.

Fiks Fare also finds the absence of two medications, which are used for chemotherapy, “Irinotecan” and “Carboplatin”. “Irinotecan” is a drug used to treat colon cancer, meanwhile, “Carboplatin” is used to treat ovarian cancer.

Two patients tell Fiks Fare that they buy the medicine in a private pharmacy near the hospital, since there is none in Oncology ward. After they buy it privately, they take it in the hospital. Fiks Fare also spoke with the head nurse and a nurse of the Oncology Department, who admit that there is a shortage of these medications. They admit that these two medications have been missing for days and that they do not know when they will arrive.

Meanwhile, for private hospitals, patients say that they cannot afford them. They also state that they have gone several times to the offices of QSUT for information, but they do not receive any answers.

The editorial office of Fiks Fare has received other information about the Oncology Hospital from patients and their families who complain about the X-ray machine, which is given to patients with colon cancer.

These patients must do a series of treatments, 5 times a week, from Monday to Friday, without interruption, in a proces that takes about 1 month.

However, on Wednesday and Thursday (today, 26.09.2024) the patients and their families were informed by the Oncology staff that the device has broken. According to doctors and staff, attempts are being made to fix it, but it failed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Fiks Fare’s camera went to the Oncology Hospital again, where the staff asked about the breakdown of X-ray machine they admit that a device called “Vomit” was broken for several days. They add that another similar device works, but it “is not effective”.
