Residents of a neighborhood in the village of Rripë in Klos, in the northeast of Albania, complained to the editorial office of Fiks Fare investigative program about the lack of a village road.

According to them, in the local elections of 2023, the Municipality of Klos sent 80 quintals of cement to the village, which would be used for the repair of the road. But, after the elections, the means and employees of the municipality did never intervene. The road is now dilapidated and the materials sent are abandoned in the open.

All muddy and narrow, elderly people or children, cannot walk in it to go to school or hospital. The mayor of Klos, Valbona Kola, admits in a conversation with the residents that the cement was sent by the municipality. Meanwhile, when asked by Fiks Fare, she denies it, affirming that is sitting in as chairman just since June 2023.

After the complaint, the Fiks Fare group traveled to the village of Rripë, in the Gurrë Administrative Unit in the Municipality of Klos. A resident says that before the local elections of 2023, the Municipality of Klos sent 80 tons of cement to that neighborhood, as a “promise” for the construction of that road. “The cement was brought in May 2023. It was to be used for the road, but now it is left in the open. My brother took care of this, but he is now gone to Greece and we are left at the mercy of fate,” says the resident.

Together with the residents, the group of Fiks Fare traverses the road that was to be paved. The road is full of mud. In one part, a resident has placed the sign “private property, pass 30 m to the right”. But the path that the resident indicates is even narrower, extremely difficult to pass.

After trying to get through, with a damaged microphone and all the mud, the Fiks fare group went to a neighborhood. They talked to different residents, who said that crossing this road is difficult. “You yourself saw how difficult it is. We only go by boots. If you are old or sick, how will you get by?” say the residents.

Then they clarify that the road has been promised dozens of times by politicians, but it has never been done. “As much as everyone is leaving the village,” says an old local man. Another claims that they only brought construction materials, but they were still not used, either because of negligence or as a result of ownership conflicts.

Fiks Fare goes after that all muddy in the Municipality of Klos. The president admits that the road is full of mud and very difficult to pass. In fact, as a doctor, she says that it is intolerable that there will be no roads in 2024. She claims there have been some ownership issues, with one resident.

Fiks Fare asks the mayor about the cement. She says she has no idea as she adds that took office in June 2023, while the cement went there in May during the electoral campaign. But, on a hidden camera, the president knew very well about the “electoral” cement sent earlier.
