President Ilir Meta commented today on the difficulties facing the Albanian tourism sector in the current coronavirus plagued season, asking for stimulus and solidarity from all factors.

“Tourism is one of the sectors most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the new tourist season in the country is predicted to be extremely difficult”, he wrote.

Further on he stated:
“Apart from the losses sustained during the quarantine period, most bookings have been canceled, jeopardizing the survival of this very important sector for the national economy. The deep concern about the severe crisis in this sector was expressed today in the meeting I had with the representatives of the tourism operators and the main tourist agencies in the country.

“We need clarity, comprehensive national solidarity, a concrete and tangible plan in support of tourism, so that the damage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is as minimal as possible and that this sector recovers quickly.

“With the resumption of flights and the opening of land borders, in close cooperation with neighboring countries, for the common good, we must support local tourism and Albanian families. For this, it is important to set special health safety protocols adapted for accommodation, means of transport, hotels, and other aspects of the hospitality industry.”
