Prime Minister Edi Rama, opposition PD leader Lulzim Basha and President Ilir Meta met today with EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs Ylva Johansson.

The Commissioner congratulated Albania on the progress made on issues related to justice and home affairs, security and migration, and stressed the need for better police co-operation and a detection of cross-border crime.

“Albania and the EU have a cooperation with all agencies in the field of justice and home affairs. It is a model that we want to continue in all the countries of the Western Balkans.

Regarding the April 25 elections, she stressed that the parties should take responsibility for the personal integrity of the candidates, a call repeatedly made also by US Ambassador Yuri Kim.

“Albania is approaching the elections and all parties must take responsibility for the integrity of the candidates in the electoral lists. This has been a really good meeting and I am here to congratulate you on the progress, but of course more needs to be done,” she said.
