The disappearance of tens of hectares of agricultural land in the Upper District of Mirdita in north-eastern Albania, has raised alarm among residents of the area.
They complain of erosion and the Fan River which is endangering their homes, and seek intervention to avoid the critical situation.
For a long time, the Fan River has eroded the surface of land, approaching the houses in the Rreth i Epërm village.
Residents of the area say that this phenomenon occurred a few years ago, when the company started the works of Rruga e Kombit highway, and threw all building waste it extracted into the river, significantly damaging the section of the Fan River.
With the rains the recent days the situation has worsened. For 10 years, residents have complained in various instances, sending requests to the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Energy and Industry, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the prefecture and the municipality, but they didn’t get any answers to resolve the situation.
The only thing that the institutions have made is the delegation of the problem to other offices. The deputy mayor of Mirdita claims that the situation has worsened, but a project has been approved along with the investment.
