After the investigations of the Special Prosecutor’s Office, Elbasan judge Zamira Vyshka and lawyer Ilir Pashaj were arrested today in Elbasan in central Albania.
The two justice functionaries are accused of “passive corruption of the judge, prosecutor and other justice functionaries”, in collaboration, provided by articles 319 and 25 of the Albanian Criminal Code. Among the arrested today are 3 other people accused of “active corruption” in relation to interested persons/family members of an arrested citizen, who offered the judge of the case a sum of money with the purpose of favoritism in determining the sentence.
The case is about family members of Xjulio Musaj, arrested for assault, who through lawyer Ilir Pashaj, offered the judge 200,000 ALL. Sources say that the judge did not accept the amount offered, later accepting double.
After analyzing the collected evidence, the authorities set the security measure “house arrest” for the judge and one of her family members, while leaving the lawyer Ilir Pashaj and two of the parties accused of “active corruption” in detention.
Judge Zamira Vyshka had not yet passed the ‘justice vetting’ process while waiting to appear before the Verification Commission, while Pashaj, previously a judge, resigned as soon as the vetting process started to move into the free lawyer profession.
