EC: Anti-defamation law didn’t represent the recommendations of the Council of Europe

The law amends regarding the media in Albania are raising concerns.
A Spokesperson of the European Commission told the Voice of America tha Brussels is taking note of the anti-defamation approval by the Albanian Parliament.
Although the law went through several amends until the last minute, and the Rama government said that they have made them in full accordance with the OSCE, the Spokesperson said for the Voice of America that the recommendations of the Council of Europe were not taken into consideration.
The Spokesperson said that Brussels will keep working closely with the Albanian authorities, to make sure that the European standards for the media freedom will be respected.
