While official sources from the government say that it is still too early to make an evaluation of the damage, experts of the economy have said for Albanian and German media that the figure could be higher than 500 million EUR and close to 1 billion.
Arben Malaj, former Minister of Finances, said that the 500 million EUR bill cannot be afforded by Albania’s annual budget, which is around 2.3 billion EUR.
Professor Ardian Civici also said that the main bill is going to be paid by the budget, and that it could be even larger than expected, since the cost must also include psycho-social consequences.
Experts quoted on a German TV station, ARD, stated that the damage cost could mount up to 1 billion EUR.
