DP boycotts Justice Institution Law discussions

The majority will be voting alone the 198 articles of the law for the
four new and most important justice institutions. The opposition
abandoned the Justice Reform Commission after three hours of debate for
Article 3.

“We left the commission because it is useless to discuss as long as the Constitution and consensus are openly violated”, Bylykbashi declared.

The parties disagree on how they will select the 10 members of the Justice and Prosecution Supreme Councils.

This is the matter that was discussed on July 21st, but the DP says the majority has placed an old law, which allows the establishing of commissions made of university teachers and lawyers, who inspect the candidates for these posts.

“They want to use their instruments for appointing name, and let the Parliament simply vote this controlled political will. They are trying to do today what they wanted to do some time ago, but that we stopped through a political agreement”, Bylykbashi declared.

The majority rejected this argument and referred to the Constitutional right for additional criteria.

“The representatives who will be selected, and who will be voted in Parliament, need certainly to go through filters. There will be real representatives from university professors and lawyers, and it cannot be under their personal title”, says Vasilika Hysi, Socialist MP.

The DP says the law for the four institutions has 11 constitutional violations, but they have not decided yet if they will return to the commission.
