At the end of 2013 when she was just into one year in charge of the Central Electoral Commission, elected only with the votes of the Democratic Party, Lefteri Luzi was indicted from the Socialist Party for power abuse in the electronic voting project in Fier.

The High State Control has filed the criminal lawsuit about one month ago, but striking is the fact that it has published in the meantime two important reports, on the Central Bank of Albania and for the Central Electoral Commission. The bank report has yet to reach Parliament before prosecution could investigate the claims. The bank’s case could pass quietly because it is related to the stability of the country the one on CEC could have political background.
Lefterie Luzi’s mandate expires in middle October and according to the Electoral Code, Parliament should announce the vacancy and start procedures for a new candidate no later than the middle of September. When she was first mandated Luzi had the full support of the Democratic Party but during the local elections relationship with the party that chose her distanced and it seems she no longer is in the party’s preferences to renew her mandate.
The question is if the attack on her by the High State Control is a move to exclude her candidacy and if so, on behalf of whom? The Socialist Party who today has a quiet relationship with Mrs. Luzi it would be welcomed renewing the mandate of a head of CEC firstly elected by the democrats. A reasonable motif to see as credible this attack on her made from Bujar Leskaj who, unlike her enjoys a very good relationship with his former party.
