The Socialist Party has yet to make it official who will be the candidate to run for the local elections in Dibra, but the decision is already taken. The majority has chosen Dionis Ymeraj as its representative, who momentarily is Head of the Tax Office in Peshkopia.
Mr Ymeraj is not a well-known figure outside his region, but in Dibra his reputation is good. Nevertheless it will be a difficult race for him, for some reasons.
Firstly he will run for a Municipality with a broken reputation because of former Mayor Shukri Xhelili. Secondly the opposition has chosen to run with a nation-wide known figure as Shehu, who has been previously part of the central government and is also one of the most serious voices of the democrats in the finance field.
Thirdly in Dibra there is a lack of enthusiasm from the other coalition member, the Socialist Movement for Integration. Some days ago, Ilir Meta said that local election in Dibra remained a local issue and andy decision would be taken by the local electorate. But in this level the two parties do not enjoy a very good relationship. Moreover there has been a local clash between two of the most influential names in the region, MPs Ulsi Manja and Përparim Spahiu.
