In the editorial office of the investigative program “Fiks Fare” on Top Channel, several videos arrived showing some dangerous construction materials with carcinogenic content, thrown on the side of the road and in the vicinity of the Osum River in Berat in central Albania.
The Fiks Fare group traveled to Berat, where they found these asbestos waste, and then the agencies started the verifications, since the square was in use by the municipality.
The municipality of Berat, after the interest of Fiks Fare, promised to remove the materials from the road, while adding that it would put obstacles to prevent the entry of trucks to throw waste. Environmental experts advise that asbestos, in the form of a thin crystal fiber, easily penetrates the lungs, where long-term exposure can cause cancerous diseases.
After the denunciation of the findings, the journalists of the investigative show contacted the Regional Environmental Agency of Berat, Elbasan and Korçë, which started the work for the elimination of dangerous waste and the prevention of the phenomenon.
