Iran-sponsored cyber attacks that hit the state-run e-Albania platform and police systems last year showed the importance of cyber security and investment in technology.

Top Channel reports that these attacks were followed by others that targeted government and banking institutions, but thanks to the protection in place the hackers were unable to penetrate.

“We encounter cyber attacks almost every day. In our cyber labs we manage to identify that in 60% of cases that these attacks come from Iran. In the other 40% of cases it is difficult to identify because hackers use cloaking techniques. From the preliminary analysis, it turns out that the attack comes from a friendly country, but then it is discovered that the enemy has been hosted in this country,” said expert Igli Tafa, of the National Cyber Security Authority.

Thanks to awareness and commitment 24/7, Albanian institutions have been able to withstand these attacks, showing that the level of cyber security has increased significantly since the time of the attacks a year ago.

A few days ago, a cyber exercise organized by Estonia took place in Albania, in which all the countries of the region participated.

“The teams were divided into offensive, defensive and teams that analyzed the reports. Albania came in first place, which shows the seriousness of the investments made for cyber security,” said Tafa.

Security in the cyber field is fragile and the situation can change from day to day, so the key to success is to train as many experts as possible.

Anyone who accesses the Internet from a device can be a target for a cyber attack, so awareness should be high, the expert adds.
