Criteria for receiving “farmer” title, strategy to formalize sector

To be a farmer it will not be enough to just live in the countryside. The Ministry of Agriculture will establish criteria before receiving this title.

These criteria will include the land that they own and the revenues their activity brings annually.

There are 350,000 farmers in Albania, but covering them with subventions remains a problem. For this reason, the Ministry of Agriculture aims to formalize farmers by giving them the “farmer” title.

The process aims to identify farmers that promise stronger economic activity, but what will happen to individuals who have modest production?

Sources from the Ministry say that both will receive grants and subventions but on different levels.
