In a closed session, the court of Tirana gave the measure “house arrest” for the 6 suspects arrested for selling contraband drugs during the pandemic, for which the prosecution asked the measure of detention.
Among them was Sokol Topçiu, 57, administrator of Farma Net Albania, who was wanted by the authorities since Friday, when Blerim Bitri, Florian Marku, Florian Lila, pharmacy administrators and Bashkim Osmani, administrator of a pharmaceutical warehouse, were arrested.
These persons, in cooperation with 64-year-old Margarita Xhaxhiu, who is suspected of bringing in smuggled goods, and her employee Jani Papuli, sold drugs that were illegally imported and were mainly used for the treatment of Covid-19.
Investigators made fake purchases with infiltrated agents, in which these drugs bought for 20 dollars, were then sold for up to 50 thousand old lek.
A total of 12 administrators of pharmaceutical entities are under investigation for smuggling and the investigations are ongoing.
