Covid-19 situation worsens/ Two victims in the last 24 hours and 77 new cases in Albania

The Ministry of Health said today that we have two Covid-19 victims in the last 24 hours, while 77 new cases have been identified.

The geographical distribution of 77 cases is as follows: 28 cases in Tirana, 13 in Shkodra, Durrës and Korça 5 cases each; 4 cases in Delvina and Berat; 3 cases in Fier, Kurbin and Puka; 2 cases in Elbasan and Kamza; and 1 case respectively in Kruja, Tropoja, Librazhd, Gjirokastra, Saranda.

Regarding the two victims, the ministry stated: A 76-year-old man from Tirana with some concomitant diseases, had improved after 15 days of treatment, but suffered pulmonary thromboembolism and lost his life.

Also, a 54-year-old man in serious condition, with renal insufficiency, died at the hospital’s emergency room. The Ministry of Health and Social Protection expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased.

The situation is serious in the infectious disease hospital where 87 patients are currently being treated, 15 of them are in intensive care, while 2 are intubated.

We also have a high number of cases requiring hospital treatment and intensive care. According to the ministry, this situation is directly related to the epidemiological criterion, such as the long incubation period of 14 days, as well as non-compliance with the measures imposed to stop the transmission of the virus.
