COVID-19 doctor’s death, Meta: Urgent need for new virus strategy

After the death of Dr. Hysni Shjaku by the new coronavirus, a message of condolence came from Albanian President Ilir Meta, who also emphasized that the alarming rate of cases increase shows that a new strategy is urgently needed.
Meta, among other things, has called for increased protection measures for all doctors, nurses, sanitary workers and support staff, who are on the front line of the fight with the disease.
“The death this morning of Dr. Hysni Shkjau, who for 40 years served with dedication and professionalism to the citizens of Puka, is another great loss for our health system.
“The most sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Shkjau, his colleagues and the entire Puka community!
“The alarming rise in the number of COVID-19 cases and the number of victims indicates that a new, more efficient and transparent strategy is urgently needed to deal with the serious consequences of this dangerous pandemic, especially with the approach of peak of the tourist season.
“Any further negligence is not only unacceptable, but also extremely costly for health and the economy.
“So I reiterate my strong call for the importance of increasing safeguards for all doctors, nurses, paramedics and support staff who are at the forefront, sacrificing, even their lives, to protect the health of everyone”, stated Meta among other things in his message.
