The leader of the opposition Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha spoke today about the sentencing of former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri to 5 years in prison.

Basha wrote on social networks that today’s decision for Tahiri proves the veracity of the accusations of the Democratic Party for the involvement of the former Minister of Interior in the international trafficking of narcotics.

“The facts of his involvement in a structured criminal group are clear evidence that at the head of the gang is Prime Minister Edi Rama, the man who appointed, protected and used every mechanism to delay the sentencing of his subordinate,” said Basha.

According to him, Tahiri and Lefter Koka are just two of the links in the chain of crime and corruption in which Edi Rama is author and executor.

On Friday, the Special Court of Appeals for Corruption and Organized Crime ruled in favor of the sentencing of former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri.

The court upheld the first instance decision, with the change that Tahiri will serve in prison the sentence of 5 years in prison. Due to the reduction of the sentence, Tahiri will spend 3 years and 4 months in prison.

According to the procedure, the former minister should immediately start serving his sentence in a regular security prison. According to the court, Tahiri with his actions or inactions has influenced the spread of the cannabis cultivation phenomenon.
