The Albanian Constitutional Court voted today 5-4 in favor of the “Rama-Meloni” agreement for the acceptance of immigrants from Africa to Albania, for a certain period of time.

Sources of Top Channel said that most members of the Court consider the pact signed in Rome between the Albanian Prime Minister and the Italian counterpart, to be “in accordance with the constitution”.

A few weeks ago, the group of opposition MPs led by Gazment Bardhit and others from the Democratic Party filed two lawsuits in the Constitutional Court where they demanded its repeal as, according to them, it contradicted the fundamental law of the Albanian state.

On December 13, the Constitutional Court considered the request made by 30 deputies of the Berisha-Bardhi group regarding the Italy-Albania agreement, which was considered by them to be unconstitutional.

The consideration of the request by the Constitutional Court automatically brought the suspension of the ratification of the agreement in the Assembly, which was planned to be done in the plenary session of December 14.

The draft agreement on migrants was approved by the Italian government on December 5 and sent to the Italian parliament for approval.

According to the agreement, the emigrants’ landing port will be Shengjin in northwest Albania, while Gjadri will be the camp where their accommodation will be built. The maximum hosting capacity is 3 thousand beds.
