Compromised arrest order for former Gambling Supervision Director

The Court of Tirana has accepted the request of the task force
Prosecutor, Dritan Rreshka, and gave an arrest measure in absence for
the former director of “Gambling Games”, Besnik Cobaj. This decision was
secretly sent to the police, which should have executed it.

But the police has not been able to find the former official for more than one week, who is now director of the Tirana Aqueduct. Sources for Top Channel say that the secrecy of this order might have been compromised from within the Court, leaving the former official enough time to disappear.

The Prosecutors declared that based on the travel data, Besnik Cobaj has not left the country. Besnik Cobaj, former Director at the Gambling Supervision Unit, was declared wanted by the Police. The Prosecution says that the situation is becoming even more suspicious after Cobaj’s lawyer appeared at the Court of Appeal and asked a change of the arrest measure. This means that Cobaj was aware of the fact.

Prosecutor Dritan Rreshka started investigating the former direcotr on November 2013, after a report made by the Ministry of Finances. The report is related to the police operation for gambling shops. Cobaj is suspected of not taking the right measures for seizing the unlicensed electronic machines.

The Prosecution says that although the unit of Gambling Supervision has made searches in Tirana, Shkoder and Kavaja, and has identified 140 unlicensed machines in 70 subjects, no order was given by the former Director for seizing them.
