After the Council of Minister imposed a customs fee on products
purchased online for over 22 EUR, a huge number of citizens have flocked
the Tirana Post Office for retrieving the packages.
They need to wait for hours and the official working hours for this specific toll is 9:11.
“A very small cell in Kinostudio was used for packages purchased from all Albania. There were 50 people waiting outside from different cities”, says Estela Ujka, blogger.
The Albanian Post say for Top Channel that citizens will not have to personally visit post offices or second-level banks to make the customs fee payment.
“The Albanian Post will allow citizens in the post branches of the cities they reside”, says Dritan Caka, legal adviser at the Albanian Post.
Citizens complain of being forced to pay even for products ordered before the government decision.
The Minister of Finances say there is no need to pay customs for products ordered before the law. “We have reduced the threshold to adopt the line used by EU and Southeastern Europe countries. The decision was published on the Official Bulletin and enters in effect on August 3rd. All orders made before this date will use the previous taxation.”
