Census by religion

On Christmas, minutes before following the mass led by the Archbishop of
Tirana, Durres and all Albania, Orthodox devotees were asked to fill a
form regarding their religious declaration.

“We’re filling a form that shows that we are Orthodox”, one of the devotees said. “We wrote down our name and surname and that was it”, another one said.

The Orthodox Autocephalous Church in Albania opposed the recent population census, saying that it is not correct. The Census forms were filled with a pencil that could be easily removed later and the religious part has not been checked and considered not important, according to Jani Meni, one of the Orthodox Church members.

Recent INSTAT data showed that the Orthodox Christians in Albania are 6.75% , but the Orthodox Church opposes it saying that the methodology used was not according to the European countries.
