CEC members of the opposition: “CEC, serving to majority”

The three members of the opposition at the Central Election Commission
informed the public opinion that the CEC declarations of the recent days
don’t represent any decision making of the CEC.

According to Klement Zguri, Hysen Osmanaj and Vera Shtjefni, these stances are personal and go against the mission of CEC, as the highest state institution for administering the elections. The chairman, they claim, has clearly surpassed his competences.

“On April 29th, 2017, a subjective interpretation was made to article 67 of the Electoral Code was made on behalf of CEC, surpassing legal competences and deciding that the deadline for parties to register for the elections of June 18th is April 29th, although it should be April 28th, at midnight. Any registration beyond this date is illegal. CEC is making up new legal norms, bringing a new deadline for the lists, May 3rd, when the deadline has already expired”, the declaration says.

“CEC cannot change through declarations the legal dates decided by the Electoral Code. CEC must only implement them. Our concern is that CEC is repeating these stances, trying to compromise our mission and giving CEC a partisan position that serves to the current majority. This could further damage the electoral process”, the declaration says.
