CEC meets with only four members

The Central Election Commission held the first meeting after the
resignation crisis. In this meeting was absent even Jani Jani, the
member from the United for Human Rights Party, who announced yesterday
to freeze his work as a CEC member.

As result, the meeting was held only with the members of the Democratic Party, Chairwoman Lefteri Lleshi, members Hysen Osmani and Vera Shtjefni, and the member who replaced Muho, Klement Zguri.

The SP legal representative, Genci Gjoncaj, considered Muho’s replacement unfair and declared that CEC has turned into a political institution.

“The recent decision taken by the Parliament, saying it was for political balance, looks more like the elections of 2011, when the CEC of that time is looking almost equal to this. They changed the rules of the game when the race was over. Today is even worse, because they changed the referee. This happens each time that the majority is scared by the people’s vote”, declared the SP legal representative at CEC, Genci Gjoncaj.

The DP legal representative, Njazi Kosovrasti, declared that the resignation of the members proposed by the opposition in CEC is a practice that was also followed in the elections of 2011 to undermine the elections.

“You effort with the resignation of the CEC members, and your declarations regarding the different phases of the upcoming process, are an effort that I value, and a failed pressure against CEC. The process will continue and the elections will be held on June 23rd with the best standards”, declared the legal representative of DP at CEC, Njazi Kosovrasti.

In this meeting CEC approved the registration of 67 political parties that will participate in the elections, and the name of three independent candidates. Five parties were not approved due tot their incomplete documentation and violation of deadlines.
