Canyon destruction, environmentalists react

Several environmentalists and members of the Civil Assembly protested
for the destruction of the “Shkalla e Tujanit”, or “Brari Canyons”, only
a few kilometers from Tirana.
The “Road of Arber” project is being executed in this area without taking in consideration the fact that it passes through a national park, and that the “Brari Canyons” are a natural monument.
“The government should take measures and stop the destruction process in this area. They must take in consideration many options and chose the best alternative for such a big project. The government should take in consideration the opinion of the public and decide for the best alternative, by not destroying this wonderful ecosystem”, the environmentalist Lavdosh Ferruni declared.
This natural monument is experiencing the same destiny of the Erzeni River, which has been exploited for gravel, despite the fact that the Prime Minister has issued an order in 2006 for excluding this river from the list of exploitable rivers. The construction company is continuing as we speak to destroy this river illegally.
