The Butrint National Park, one of the most attractive tourist
destinations in Southern Albania, welcomed a large number of local and
foreign visitors this year.
Butrint is offered in tourist packages which include the Bird Observatory, Ali Pasha Castle, Vivari Canal and the Triangular Castle.
However, Park Director Gjergi Mano says the harmonization of these assets with the archeologic territory remains a challenge.
“For the third consequent year we have reached 600.000 EUR in revenues. We used to have a 1 million EUR budget which put to service with various projects”, Mano declared.
The missing protection of the natural habitat for several species around Butrint has caused serious damage through the years, which has turned into one of the main challenges of the park.
The team which manages Butrint say a long-term plan with modern management would make it a more stable tourism destination.
“There is still much to do, so that we can improve the site for visitors”, Mano says.
