The US Chamber of Commerce asked the Tirana Municipality to review some
decisions, which, according to them, are unfair with the tax package,
starting with the payment of the education tax which is paid more than
once.
“This tax is paid for every secondary registered company. A business that has several registered names, pays this tax several times”, Bozo said.
The US Chamber of Commerce said that the way how the Municipality categorizes businesses for the Cleaning Fee should also change, so that all businesses pay a fair fee, according to Bozdo.
The Municipality says they are trying to build a fair system of local taxes, necessary for funding public works in the capital.
“The city is a big house that belongs to everyone and this money is turned into public works”, said Vice Mayor Arbjan Mazniku.
According to Mazniku, the local tax burden that businesses pay to the municipality is lower than in the neighboring countries. He illustrated this with the budget size: “The Tirana city budget is the lowest from any other capital in the region”, he said.
The new tax package changes a series of local fees which also caused protests from small businesses in the capital.
