As every year, on January 6th, Orthodox devotees gathered around Albanian cities to celebrate the “Blessed Water” Day.
The celebrations involve gathering around a local river and racing each other to get across that the local priest throws into the water.
In Berat, the Cross was caught for the second consequent year by the same 42-year old, Alfred Xhimitiku, after it was thrown by father Petraqi.
In Elbasan, the cross for this year was caught by 9-year-old Julian Shqau.
In Gjirokaster, the cross was thrown into the Drin River, while in Pogradec it was thrown into the Ochrid Lake.
Lushnje Orthodox devotees gathered at the Seman River, while similar celebrations were also organized in Fier and also in Korca, where the weather is colder but the devotees didn’t hesitate to jump into the pool.
