Berisha to EPP: Rama blocks immunity

03/08/2012 19:10

The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, had a meeting this Friday
with the Chairman of the European Popular Party Parliamentary Group at
the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Luca Volante.

Speaking on the political developments, PM Berisha declared that the parties have respected the November Agreements with the approval of the Electoral Reform and some qualified majority laws.

On the other hand he expresses his concern for what he considered “blocking for the immunity lifting” made by the Socialist leader, Edi Rama.

Berisha declared that Rama is not voting the immunity lifting only for blocking the EU candidate status for Albania. According to him, the opposition leader believes that this will decrease the Albanians’ trust to the government.

The Head of the right center at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe declared that Mr. Rama, in the last meeting with the representatives of the Assembly had accused the government of not lifting the immunity, and that with that immunity the government was protecting the corruption of its officials.

And now, according to him, the opposition is blocking the immunity lift by protecting corruption and by blocking the EU candidate status. Volante confirmed that this action is dangerous for the European future of Albania.

SP leader: Denigrating campaign against opposition

After the Prime Ministry’s press release for the Berisha-Volante meeting, the Socialist leader, Edi Rama, declared that he regrets the content of the Prime Ministry’s announcement about the meeting in question.

“It is not the first time that second-hand exponents of the European right-wing are becoming part of the denigrating campaigns of the opposition, together with Sali Berisha”, Rama underlined.

“No matter how much the Democratic Party leader tries to defame the opposition, and whatever support will he receive from any right-winged European official, the Socialist Party has done this year for the EU integration more than any other opposition in the history”, Rama declared.

For Rama, the tale that the opposition is blocking the status, since they will not vote on August sixth, is something that Berisha and Volante can tell to each other or to whoever believes them blindly, but not to the Albanians who have their own eyes and ears.

Rama assures the public opinion and the international partners of the Socialist Party that their position will not change.

“The Socialist Party will vote the constitutional immunity limitation only after the other Constitutional amends will be discussed”, Rama underlined.

SP appealed the Prime Minister to give up from the politics of slander against opposition and start the debate for the part of Constitutional amends that have not been discussed yet.
