The leader of the Albanian opposition, Sali Berisha, responded through a post on social networks, to the comment of the US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe, Gabriel Escobar, who in an interview told that Berisha was declared ‘non-grata’ by an institutional and not political decision.
Berisha said today that the denigration of his figure “without any evidence and facts” came as a result of the corrupt lobbying of PM Rama and Soros, and as a blind political revenge since in 2017 he had requested the “non grata”declaration for George Soros.
Berisha said that his ‘non grata’ declaration had as its main purpose to help the government of Edi Rama, which according to him is the most corrupt in Europe, and to damage the Albanian opposition and tarnish its 30-year legacy.
He called on Escobar to at least comply with the requests from the Congress to make transparency about this decision according to him “based on slander”.
The Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, Gabriel Escobar, in an interview for the Voice of America, said yesterday that the decision to declare Sali Berisha non grata was not political but institutional, but the US still has good partners in DP.
