“The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali berisha, reminded the Democratic MPs
that the agreement signed with the Socialist Movement for Integration in
2 September 2009 states that the presidential election will be made
through consensus between the two coalition forces.
Berisha underlined that in the meeting held with the SMI leader last week, they showed their determination to stand to this agreement, and that in the meeting with the allies, they showed the determination to elect the president with qualified majority.
“Although there is an agreement, which elects the President through a consensus between the DP and the SMI, we agreed to give our efforts for electing the President with qualified majority, as the Albanian Constitution provides”, Berisha declared.
But the President will not be elected in the first rounds of the Parliamentary voting.
Berisha underlined that the goal is to find a personality with high credentials and who is trusted by the Albanians. Berisha reminded that the Democratic Parliamentary Group leader, Astrit Patozi, invited the Socialist leader to negotiations through a letter to the Socialist homologue, Gramoz Ruci.
“Instead of a written answer, Edi Rama started the next editorial in which he solemny swears that he will overthrow this government at any cost, and that this is the main problem of Edi Rama. This editorial showed that they will not participate in the Presidential election process”, Berisha declared.
Berisha added that in the meeting that Patozi and Ruci held this Sunday, the Socialist representatives brought an ultimatum with four conditions.
The SMI leader, Ilir Meta, declared that the next president should be elected with a wider majority than the governing majority and that the President should be elected through a consensual process, preferably in the first round.
