The European Popular Parties in Brussels held a conference in support of
their sister parties in Balkan. Invited to speak about the
opportunities and challenges of the of the stabilization and association
process. Prime Minister Berisha spoke on what he underlined as
achievements of Albania in economy, tourism, health and war agaisnt
poverty, crime and corruption, without forgetting the opposition as a
problem.

“There is a record statistic with a lower serious crimes level than the average of the EU. Last year we had more than 4 million tourists and none of them had any problem with our country. Corruption was a very big problem in Albania. It is still a problem, but we are constantly committed to fight it. Let me remind you that in 1992, Albania and Angola were the poorest countries in the world. Today Albania has left behind five EU countries, or five OSCE countries. We are ranked among the countries with the lowest mortality rates in the world. I am very grateful to the European Popular parties, the European Parliament and the European Commission for the big help that they have offered in resolving something that is very basic: that the Albanian opopsition has never before been anti-European, but by not being present in Parliament, they thought that they could punish the government and get benefits, but this was wrong. We are working together now, in a normal climate, with honesty and constructivism from both parties for the agreements that have been reached”, Berisha declared.

The President of the European Popular Parties praised PM Berisha for his work in the key integration fields, such as justice and corruption. Eduard Kukan, the Chairman of the Delegation for Balkan asked concrete results from Albania.

Joseph Daul, President i PPE në Parlamentin Europian:

“We have worked hard and we are still working with justice, corruption and organized crime, but also the human traffics. We are very sensible on these matters and I know, because I am following you very closely, that you are playing the European game.”

Eduard Kukan, Head of the Delegation for Balkan at the European Parliament:

“As we heard by the Albanian Prime Minister, Mr. Sali Berisha, they are working in a very active way in all fields.

“As we heard the Prime Minister of Albania, Minister Sali Berisha, they are working very actively in all fields. But for achieving a real success, more cooperation and dialogue is needed by all interested parties, and concrete results that will come from this dialogue. This will be the more convincing thing for us”.

Prime Minister Berisha declared that the European Popular Parties’ conference had the highest representation level, with the Foreign Macedonian Minister, the Kosovo Foreign Minister and other representatives from the region.

“The biggest event of this year in Balkan is the 100th anniversary of Albania’s independence, and I invite you to be present in this big event for my country, you and your colleagues”,  Berisha declared.
