The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, met with the representatives of the Commission of Venice and ODIHR.

During this meeting, PM Berisha guaranteed the European representatives for the majority’s readiness to start an electoral reform as soon as possible.

“I hope that the opposition will show the same will. The expertise of the Commission of Venice and ODIHR is a guarantee for achieving the objectives”, Berisha declared.

On the other hand, the representatives of the Commission of Venice and ODIHR guaranteed the Head of the Albanian Government that they will contribute for the reform.

The expert group from the Commission of Venice and ODIHR has visited Albania on a two-day trip for being updated with the concerns and suggestions of the Albanian political spectrum regarding the May 8th elections and the improvements of the electoral legislation.

Berisha: Electoral reform with the opposition

On the day when a Commission of Venice delegation visited Tirana, the Albanian Prime Minister expressed his readiness to sit with the opposition for discussing the electoral reform, in which the opposition would have equal rights with the majority.

“We are ready to widely cooperate with the OSCE/ODIHR and the Commission of Venice, with the opposition having the right of veto in this Commission, as they asked for full equality”, Berisha declared.

The Albanian PM added that he is ready to accept all Socialist propositions, if they will be approved by the OSCE/ODIHR and the Commission of Venice.

“Why? Because we are sure that the Commission of Venice and ODIHR will defend the international standards”, Berisha declared.

The Prime Minister expressed his readiness for reviewing the Parliament Regulation, based on that of the European Parliament.

“We are ready to start working right away for the Parliament Regulation, based on that of the European Parliament”, Berisha declared.

The Prime Minister said that this was his offer for the opposition, but he was skeptical if they would accept it or not. According to him, Rama has been stuck in the loss of the Tirana Municipality, “to which he will dedicate a book”, Berisha added with irony.
