Berisha: Fighting crime in institutions

The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, asked the Prosecutor General,
the heads of the Secret Service, the State Police and all other law
enforcing agencies to fight organized crime from within their own
institutions.

In the inter-institutional meeting for measures against organized crime, traffic and terrorism, the Prime Minister asked for the implementation of the model declared by the new Prosecutor General.

“The Prosecutor General took his duty with a motto that I consider vital for the success in each of your agencies. He publicly declared that his fight against crime would start with his institution. If we don’t fulfil this condition, success will be on the crime’s side”, Berisha declared.

The Prime Minister asked the Minister of Finances to take the IMF data used by Global Financial Integrity to discover that 1.3 billion USD have left Albania as dirty money.

“We are an IMF member and I think our government can receive such information. The Prosecutor General, the Agency of Fight against Money Laundering and the Criminal Police should use all their connections to follow this money and find out who is behind and where it comes from. We have had crystal clear cases when prosecutors have answered to the State Authority of Fight against Money Laundering that we do not have a money laundering case, without investigating even for one hour. There’s no better defence”, Berisha underlined.

The government leader asked the law enforcement agencies to not slow down their work for the electoral campaign. The better the law will function, the better the elections would be, Berisha told them.

“Regardless the electoral campaigns, you must focus on the “zero tolerance” attitude against organized crime. I am sure that this is a request of all political forces and all citizens. They should see the parties in meetings and the institutions in full capacity”, Berisha added.
