Prime Minister Sali Berisha repeated his appeal for a calm election process during the government meeting.

He appealed the “Alliance for the Citizen” supporters and the opposition to respect the Election Code and to avoid inappropriate rhetoric.

“The Alliance for the Citizen” is completely committed to maintain good virtues and civil moral on this election campaign, a campaign that should be focused on intensive dialogue with the community and the citizens. This campaign should be focused on the citizens, their values, interests, problems, concerns and vision. I appeal all our members and supporters to maintain this moral and aspiration for the election campaign. I appeal our opponents to give the citizens the possibility to evaluate the candidate’s competition and alternatives, and to abandon the passion for the words that come from ‘the rubbish bin’.  It is on the interest of all political forces to maintain a civilized campaign. These elections are very important, because the Albanian citizens will elect the governments with which they will have a direct contact. Albania has entered a very important phase of EU integration. This fact gives to these elections a greater importance”, Berisha said.

“Condemning any violent act, I want to thank the police for the good work and their professional training for these events. I appeal all citizens that support the majority to do all they can in order to avoid violent events or offences, and to focus on the highest values of the citizen during these elections. This is the safest road to consolidate the democracy in Albania”, Berisha declared.

The Prime Minister made a special appeal for respecting the order that the Prime Minister issued for not using other financial sources than what  is assigned by the law for the election campaign.

“I appeal to the opposition to avoid excessive financial sources for this campaign. They should not forget that on these elections, the governing parties are not the majority of the central power. The opposition has the biggest cities of the country, and they should not use local government financial sources for the electoral campaign. The order issued by the Prime Minister is being implemented by the central administration. I guarantee the citizens that the majority will implement the order issued by the Prime Minister, based on previous OSCE / ODIHR recommendations”, Berisha said.

During the government meeting, Berisha appealed all Albanian districts to implement the project that was inaugurated recently in Durres, aiding the Roma community.

“Some days ago we inaugurated in Durres a project of 100 residences for the Roma community. This project provides a school, a kindergarten and also health services. It would be much appreciated that this positive experience gets extended on other districts where the Roma community lives. Let us have a similar project in Tirana, for avoiding ugly events like the recent one”, Berisha said.
