Beqja: INSTAT, not transparent

The Socialist economy expert, Ilir Beqja, declared that the Statistics
Institution has plunged the country in darkness by not publishing the
indicators as the law provides.

“We have public data for the GDP increase only for the first trimester of the year. The same happens with the retail market. The data were not published even by the end of September” Beqja declared.

According to Beqja, the delays of the data publishing have direct effect on the policies and decisions that the state takes for the economy and other areas.

“How credible can Albania’s monetary politics be when one part of the information must come from INSTAT? In the current climate, instead of making everything easier, we are in the darkness”, Beqja declared.

The problem of credible data has been a constant concern of the international community that surveys the Albanian economy, such as IMF and the World Bank, which in many cases have requested reforms for INSTAT.

The IMF explained the reasons why they warned the Albanian government for the economic dangers, while the World Bank director in Tirana, Ksenia Lvovsky declared for Top Channel that the politics is damaging the economy.
