Orthodox believers celebrated today one of their most important days the birth of Christ, although this year they celebrated amid the pandemic and restrictive measures. Archbishop Anastasios Janullatos led the Christmas Mass while wearing a mask at the “Resurrection of Christ” Cathedral in Tirana.

A month ago the Archbishop was infected by COVID-19 and was sent to Athens for treatment by Greek military helicopter, in a special protocol.

Although at a great age, 91 years old, the archbishop managed to defeat covid-19. Also in June this year, Janullatos underwent surgery as a result of a heart attack.

Today’s Mass was held with a small turnout of Orthodox believers respecting safety protocols. In the ceremony in addition to Archbishop Anastasios, all representatives of the Orthodox Church wore masks at all times.
